Getting Rid of Creepers in the Garden

Creeping plants can be aggressive and difficult to remove, but here are a few effective strategies:

Manual Removal

1. Uproot Regularly – Pull out the creepers by hand, making sure to remove the entire root system. It’s easier after rain when the soil is loose.
2. Dig Out Roots – Some creepers regrow from root fragments. Use a shovel to dig deep and remove the roots completely.

Preventing Regrowth

• Regular Maintenance – Check for regrowth and remove young shoots early.
• Plant Ground Covers – Replace creepers with controlled ground covers or mulch to prevent re-establishment.
• Edging & Barriers – Install physical barriers like garden edging to prevent creeping plants from spreading.

Getting Rid of Oxalis Weeds in Pots

Oxalis (commonly called wood sorrel) spreads via bulbs and is tough to eliminate.

Manual Removal

1. Remove by Hand – Carefully pull out oxalis, ensuring you extract the tiny bulbs (bulbils) in the soil.
2. Repot Severely Infested Plants – If oxalis has deeply invaded a potted plant, consider repotting in fresh, sterilized soil.

Chemical Control

• Herbicide for Pots – Use a selective herbicide like one for broadleaf weeds (avoid harming surrounding plants).
• Vinegar Spray – A homemade mix of white vinegar and a few drops of dish soap can be applied directly to oxalis leaves to weaken them.

Preventing New Growth
